Her Moves at Shine Festival!
We’ve wrapped up another amazing Shine Festival, and what an incredible few days it was!
We were thrilled to be part of The Shona Project's incredible Shine Festival, an event dedicated to empowering Transition Year girls across Ireland. Our team arrived bright and early to set up the Her Moves stand, ready to connect with the girls and inspire them to embrace movement in their daily lives. By 9:30, the festival was in full swing, with eager students excited to learn more about Her Moves. They had the chance to set personal movement goals and try their hand at rowing, with guidance from the fantastic girls in Rowing Ireland.
We also hosted a design competition where, inspired by the talented Barbara Bennett, the girls designed their own Air Force Ones, with the prize of having the winning design brought to life! It was a wonderful opportunity for them to express their creativity and individuality.
Megan O'Regan Byrne and Shonagh Lyons hosted the event, with our first guest speaker being none other than Tammy, the inspiring founder of The Shona Project. Tammy shared the powerful story behind why she started the project, emphasising the importance of supporting and empowering teenage girls. How lucky are we to have leaders like Tammy paving the way!
Following Tammy’s talk, Sport Ireland’s Hannah Craig interviewed Irish rugby star Katie Corrigan. Katie spoke openly about her journey in both sport and school, discussing the challenges she’s faced on her path to international rugby—all by the age of 19. Both Katie and Hannah left us feeling inspired and eager to follow Katie’s promising career.
The day also featured panels of amazing women and inspiring guest speakers, including Molly Hayes, Fionnuala Moran, Mary Hayes, Yemi Adenuga, and The Fabulous Pharmacist, to name just a few. The room was filled with energy and excitement, culminating in a fun dance session led by Shauna and the Sing Along Social. It was a truly unforgettable experience.
We left the Shine Festival feeling empowered and inspired, just as we hope the girls did too! A huge thank you to Tammy and the entire team at The Shona Project for creating such a special event. We can’t wait for next year!
