The Lakins Misline in the Sky Programme is a water-based programme for teenage girls from the Meath Traveller Workshop. It includes: Swim Lesson, Water Activities/Games and Canoeing/ Paddle Sports.
The aim of the programme is to empower girls (12-17yrs) to become more active by providing them the opportunity to develop and design an activity programme they would like to be part of. The Lakins Misline in the Sky Programmes will allow the girls to become more confident and competent in the water. This will give them the confidence to take part in further swim programmes locally and also the confidence to swim while on holiday with their families. Swimming is an important life skill and not only provides safety and enjoyment but can also be a great way to stay physically fit and active.
The swim programme is taking place in Oldcastle Pop-Up Pool which has limited capacity. The girls will have their own pool time providing privacy as well as more individual teaching time with the Swim Tutor. Combining the swim techniques and a selection of fun water games, the programme is as much about participating as a group and building the social connection together while exercising. After the 4-week swim programme, the girls will be water confident and will have the opportunity to take part in some Paddle Sports that will include: Kayaking, Waterboarding, Rowing.
Swim Dates: 2nd 9th, 16th August
Location: Oldcastle Pop-Up Pool
Paddle Sports Date: Thursday 17th August
